Libraries Remember

At my library we are making plans for the observance of Septemner 11, 2001. We call this commemoration: Libraries Remember. Each occassion for planning and reflecting on the day strengthen my committment to that statement. Libraries remember - they retain and hold what is dear to a community. Remembering is key to growth.

Our "how to" on Instant Messaging

1. What is Instant Messaging?
(IM) - a text-based computer conference over the Internet between two or more people who must be online at the same time. When you send an IM the receiver is instantly notified that she/he has a message.

2. How do I Instant Message?
We are using Microsoft's MSN Messenger and Yahoo! for this event. Participants would have to download and install your own Instant Messaging (IM) program.

Open a new message and type the library's IM name in the To: field
OR add us to your buddy list, then double click on the library's IM name to open an IM window, and type your message.

3. If I don't have one, where can I download an Instant Messaging Program? Free downloads are available at http://messenger.msn.com/Download/ and http://messenger.yahoo.com/ !

NOTE:
Use of the above software does not constitute endorsement by any of the "Live Chat" libraries, nor do the libraries provide any warranty against any virus or malicious users. Users may wish to find out more about possible security risks with IM software

My Singapore Friends

The planning process of our East Meets West program has been a joyful time. The geography and time zones between are nothing when we meet in cyberspace for our conversation. The process of email, IM'ing, and blog posting allows each of us the tool appropriate to our circumstance. As Ivan says "we basically just... talk. And we get to know each other better." Today I join in the celebration 40 Years of Independence, Happy Birthday Singapore!
